Greg Potter tells me to wait two weeks to plan my visit

They want the international patent filings in place before they open their doors to any visitors. Just moved to a larger facility to accommodate 4x more demand than they had initially expected.

For those of you who don't follow our news daily, here are a couple of news bullets from the past two days, for which this present article is a follow-up.

GDS Technologies' Portable Water Generators - Canadian company has a water-powered, portable genset available for sale ["not until Dec. 15" (story)] on their website, in output sizes of 5 kW, 10 kW and 15 kW, at a price of around $1000/kW. Just 4 gallons of tap water will run the 5 kW system relatively quietly for three days. It emits no pollution, no fumes. Suitable for non-grid-tie applications. (PESWiki; October 26, 2014)

Greg Potter with his "Portable Water Generator"

Another Chat with Greg

This morning, I had a 5-minute phone conversation with Gregory (Greg) Potter.

I mentioned that I realized he wanted to do just one call a week with me in my "media" capacity, to provide updates, but that I also wear a hat of networking people to help facilitate these technologies moving forward.

Mike Waters, President of NEST, who came up with a similar technology idea ten years ago, and is presently working on a variation of that by another inventor, said he would happily drive up to meet with Greg and provide advisory input. Mike is brilliant in these kinds of things and could greatly facilitate the ability for Greg to eliminate some of the frictional heating problems they presently face, which requires a suggested shut down of the device after 8-12 hours of continuous use, to allow it to cool down for 3 hours, before running it again, lest there be a longevity issue.

Greg seemed grateful for the offer, but said that he would like to wait two weeks to get all the PCT international patent filing work taken care of, so he has that intellectual property protection in place.

Ditto for the several people who offered to go in to validate the technology.

Greg extended a warm welcome to me -- after two weeks.

He said he's getting ~800 emails a day about this technology. I didn't tell him this, but that is just the tip of the iceberg of what he can expect once people start receiving these and are using them. He'll be more famous than Edward Snowden. They'll need 10 to 50 people working full-time just to screen the calls and emails. I was grateful he gave me a private email to get through to him, and not be lost in the midst of his deluge.

I suggested he modify the wording in the description of his video, which now (11 am MDT) has 50,000 views, up from 2k when I saw it 2.5 days ago. That's where most of his traffic is coming from. If he ads wording to the effect, "EXPECTED ARRIVAL DATE: December 15, 2014", then people will realize it is not yet available. Our PESWiki page about this now has over 14,000 visits.

Another thing Greg shared with me is that they moved out of their factory facility yesterday to move to a much larger, more secure facility, because they want to quadruple the rate of production they had initially planned on (previous plan: 400/month). (Sterling's comment: That will still be ~1000x less than the demand once people realize this is real.) They saw someone out front taking pictures of their facility yesterday, which accelerated the urgency of move. "Everything is out of the building, as of 3am." For their security, I won't convey the exact number of hundreds of thousand square feet he cited for the new facility, but I will say it is impressive.

He also told me his web guy was updating the website, removing the purchase buttons. I went and looked just now, and saw the following statement at the top of the home page:

"Due to the increase of calls and emails we have been receiving about our generators, we would like to ask that you remain patient, as we will be ready for distribution to the public in the near future. Like us on Facebook to receive updates."

ADVISORY: With any technology, you take a high risk to invest significant time or money unless (1) independent testing has thoroughly corroborated the technology, (2) the group involved has intellectual rights to the technology, and (3) the group has the ability to make a success of the endeavor.
