Schematic Sketch - Original 10 Cylinder Piston Engine
Rauen has invented a second Fuel-Free Piston Engine. It uses the same thermodynamic cycle as the first engine, but a much simpler mechanical configuration. The new design is less expensive and easier to build (many fewer moving parts). This engine has 4 cylinders. The original engine had 10. It will be an easier engine to prototype and both cheaper and simpler to manufacture. A patent application covering this new design is in the works. Prototypes will be fabricated using machinable Graphene. A form of Graphene is being developed for 3-D printing. This is a remarkable new material and is likely to be used for production engines. (For more about Ken Rauen see brief bio below).
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONS
These inventions go beyond the prior art by totally converting heat from an energy source into mechanical work, allowing an engine of the present invention to interface with only one thermal reservoir. When only one thermal reservoir is required, the heat source can be the traditional heat sink, the environment. Heat inside the engine is converted into work, the engine becomes cold, and heat flows from the environment into the engine according to the correct interpretation rather than the traditional understanding of the Second Law of Thermodynamics.
The Second Law of Thermodynamics has limitations on its applicability, just as Quantum Mechanics showed that Newtonian Mechanics did not apply on the atomic scale. The Second Law does not universally apply to heat engines, as previously believed. There are conditions under which the Second Law does not apply, where the randomness of heat, identified by the Kinetic Theory of Heat and Statistical Mechanics, is not random in its conversion into work. The general scientific explanation behind this invention of the non-universality of the Second Law of Thermodynamics has been conceptually and experimentally proven and published as the Proell Effect, though not yet widely accepted in the mainstream scientific community.
These inventions differ from the inventors earlier U.S. Patent: No. 6,698,200, based upon the Proell Effect.
They aim to approach 100% conversion of heat into work, inspired by the pioneering ideas of Jacob T. Wainwright in the early 1900s. Like Sadi Carnot's first arguments for the Second Law of Thermodynamics in 1824, Wainwrights ideas were incomplete and partly incorrect, but Wainwright's ideas provided the inspiration for this invention.
These inventions correct and complete the theoretical concepts initiated by Wainwright.
AESOP has now achieved Five Major Breakthroughs. The first is Kens (patent pending) atmospheric heat-driven 10 cylinder NO-FUEL PISTON ENGINE. The second is his newly invented 4 cylinder FUEL-FREE PISTON ENGINE that has many fewer parts and thus will be cheaper and easier to manufacture. The third and fourth are his Turboshaft and Turbojet engines. The fifth is a tiny self-powered generator, based on Room Temperature Ultraconductors, that might replace batteries in hearing aids and pacemakers.
The latest prototype piston engine, a new design, has far fewer parts and will be cheaper and easier to make. It is designed to deliver what Ken Rauen, the inventor of all these engines, calls: one hamster power. It will light an LED. The small power output is a result of the design simplicity. The engine is scalable there appears to be no impediment to developing higher power engines. Successful operation and testing will be enough to prove the concept. It will constitute a monumental achievement. Once fabricated Kitty Hawk prototypes will be sent to independent laboratories for validation. Desktop demonstration units and 1,000 watt generators will follow.
The thermal energy content of the atmosphere, ocean, and upper crust is estimated to be more than 10,000 times that of the world's fossil fuel reserves, making it a potentially inexhaustible reservoir of green energy. Daniel Sheehan U. of San Diego
Desktop early examples of the piston engine may measure 10 x 10 x 6. They will not get hot.
Production engines are likely to be fabricated by 3-D printing using Graphene. They will be capable of recharging hand-held devices. Emergency generator engines will be next. A 1,000 watt genset could be 30 x 30 and 12 high.
The inventor of these piston engines earlier demonstrated (U.S. Patent: #6,698,200) that ambient heat can be utilized as the power source to create 100% efficient engines. The paper The Proell Effect: A Macroscopic Maxwell's Demon discusses the relevant science. The new engines substitute the insights of Jacob Wainwright for the Proell effect. Heat exchangers are no longer needed. See the American Institute of Physics Abstract, as well as one of Jacob Wainwrights papers, in SECOND LAW SURPRISES, under MORE, on the AESOP Institute website. Extensive mathematical modeling by our group and others indicates that the prototypes, as well as large second generation piston engines, are likely to function as anticipated.
Kenneth M. Rauen received his BS in Chemistry from the University of Detroit in 1978. Working for the Ford Motor Company turned him into a hands-on engineer and physicist. Later employed in an engineering capacity by several firms, he worked on the resurrection of the Papp engine at Clean Energy Inc. in Palo Alto. He has been a technical advisor to PES Network since it was founded in 2003. He also provided valuable technical input for the New Energy Congress. Ken worked closely with the late Gene Mallove in the lab and assisted Gene both by writing articles and providing peer review for Infinite Energy magazine. Ken just published, with Bill Harrington, in Infinite Energy #116 (August 2014): The Ultraviolet Catastrophes of Quantum Mechanics, demonstrating why Temporal Wave Mechanics should supersede Quantum Mechanics. Kens earlier engine (U.S. Patent: No. 6,698,200) proved the Second Law of Thermodynamics could be circumvented. This engine was featured on PESN. The following is one of several articles about him on this website.
The non-profit AESOP Institute, incorporated in California in 1977, is spinning out a new Company AESOP Energy LLC. This Holding Company will be a private firm. Two subsidiaries are currently planned. The first, Fuel-Free Energy Inc. will commercialize the piston and turbine engines that need no fuel. The second, Ultraconductors Inc. will commercialize proven room temperature superconductors.
AESOP seeks additional Working Capital to:
(1) Complete Engine and Hearing-Aid generator prototypes.
(2) Establish AESOP Energy LLC, the Holding Company.
In this present world
a revolutionary idea or invention is hampered in its adolescence by want of means, by selfish interests, pedantry, stupidity and ignorance. It is attacked and stifled, and passes through bitter trials and tribulations.
All that was great in the past was ridiculed, condemned, combated, suppressed, only to emerge all the more powerfully, all the more triumphantly from the struggle. Nikola Tesla
