Pure Energy Systems News

Once again we bring you a compilation of various news items about Andrea Rossi's E-Cat that have emerged since our February 23 compilation.

Mainstream news sources are indicated with the yellow highlight.

  • Introductions / Overviews
    • Race for cold fusion: Nasa, MIT, Darpa and Cern peer through the keyhole - Four months ago, Andrea Rossi demonstrated what he claims was a one-megawatt "Energy Catalyser" -- or E-Cat -- which produces power by cold fusion. This technology, also known as Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR), had been consigned to the deepest cellar of fringe science. Now it's hammering on the cellar door, and Nasa, MIT, Darpa and Cern are among those peering through the keyhole, wondering if it should be allowed back in with respectable science. • Here Is Yet Another Endorsement - one more endorsement has appeared on Foreign Policy Journal, where Dr. Stoyan Sarg (Sargoyetchev), a Bulgarian physicist residing in Canada (known for his work in space research for Bulgarian, Soviet, Canadian and US institutions). (ECatHome; February 29, 2012)

    • Rossi Vows Fight to Defend Intellectual Property - Andrea Rossi responded to an inquiry about the recent test of his E-Cat mentioned by Roland Pettersson with a stern declaration about defending his intellectual property. The full text of his post is below: Dear Martin: We started the tests of the domestic reactor. The technology is completely changed, new patents have been applied for, an intense testing program... (E-CatWorld; February 29, 2012)
  • Commentary

    • Cool eCat Or Fake eCat - Cool eCat Or Fake eCat Some time ago, I wrote a piece trying to draw some of the evidence for and against the reality of the eCat. To someone convinced that the whole thing is a fraud, it probably looked like a believer's charter. The reality is… we are exactly in the same place. (ECatNews; February 24, 2012)
    • The Ecat's Potential Role In The Evolution Of Species - ... people could start growing more food locally and sustainably, hence they would have enough to stop poaching for food and income. The E-Cat technology could also potentially improve sustainable agriculture, horticulture and aquaculture. When there is cheap and abundant energy, it also becomes economically sound to recycle human waste ... (ECatReport; February 28, 2012)
  • Skeptics
    • - official site launched for his $1 million offer for 1 kW LENR within a year.
      • The Smith LENR Prize - It is well known within LENR circles that Australian Entrepreneur, Dick Smith, is scathing of Andrea Rossi's eCat claims. After Rossi refused his offer of a $1m (US) challenge, he extended that offer to Greek company Defkalion GT who are making similar claims. Mr Smith's offer was… (ECatNews; February 25, 2012)
        • Dick Smith LENR Prize - Dick Smith, the Australian entrepreneur and a doyen of the Aussie Skeptics' Society, recently offered $1m to anyone who could prove they had a LENR device capable of producing an output of 1kW or over. Asked to formalise this offer, he has now set up a website… (ECatNews; February 29, 2012)
      • Dick Smith: "Rossi E-CAT ... too fantastic to be true" - I emailed Smith asking him "you have expressed serious doubts about whether Andrea Rossi's E-Cat performs as claimed. What is the basis of your doubts?" and I received the following reply a few days ago (Forbes; February 24, 2012)
    • E-Cat: the contradictions of Rossi on his cold fusion (Original in  Italian) - The ' E-cat , the machine invented by Andrea Rossi and Sergio Focardi is proposed as the solution to global energy, is still shrouded in mystery. (; February 27, 2012)
  • Other Cold Fusion Competitor News
    (Typically also mention E-Cat)
    • Defkalion
      • The Greek government in test of Defkalion's technology - Representatives of the Greek government on February 24 assisted at a test of Defkalion's energy technology – a potentially fierce competitor of Andrea Rossi's 'E-cat.' Meanwhile, Rossi continues to develop his technology. Alexandros Xanthoulis, representative of the investors, said that the test was conducted on 24 February and that it was not focused on safety, as the product is not yet ready for such tests. The focus was instead to show that there was excess heat energy released from a 'Low Energy Nuclear Reaction' and not from a chemical source. The test lasted for 24 hours and included both an empty and an active reactor, which were switched after 12 hours. Xanthoulis also said that two of the seven international groups have already carried out their tests and that the last of those tests is scheduled for late March. (NyTeknik; February 28, 2012)
        • Defkalion's Independent Testing Underway - Ny Teknik's Mats Lewan has interviewed Alexandros Xanthoulis a representative of the investors supporting Defkalion about the firm's shall we say, Ni+H=E, LENR or Cold Fusion technology independent testing protocol. On the Defkalion website the report has it said, "Tests with the presence of high level (Greek) government officials have been concluded. Opinions and results were very positive. Announcements will be made upon mutual agreements, at a time yet to be defined." (NewEnergyandFuel; March 1, 2012)
        • Defkalion Reports Successful Conclusion of Tests with Government Officials - Defklaion Green Technologies have just posted a short statement regarding their testing. Tests with the presence of high level Government officials have been concluded. Opinions and results were very positive. Announcements will be made upon mutual agreements, at a time yet to be defined. Tests continue with international Authorities in the coming weeks. DGT... • Nyteknik: Professor Roland Pettersson of Uppsala University Reports on Feb 20 E-Cat Demo - A new article in NyTeknik by Mats Lewan reports on the status of testing of Defkalion Green Technologies' Hyperion reactor and Andrea Rossi's E-Cat. Sources have told Lewan that the recent testing reported by DGT were safety tests. More tests will apparently be forthcoming. • Defkalion Freezes its Forum - Announcement on Defkalion's site, is a must read briefing, to see where they're coming from at present. (; February 29, 2012)
      • Defkalion LENR Testing Under Way (3 mb PPT) - Sterling Allan's PowerPoint for February 29, 7:00 pm EST at the Conference on Future Energy.
      • The Peak Oil Crisis: A Breakthrough? - Meanwhile, the "cold fusion" saga continues to bubble along. ...Last week the Greek cold fusion company, Defkalion, invited in "high level" inspectors from the Greek government to test a prototype of the device. ...Leonardo Corporation, which also has not yet had its claims of energy production from the nickel-hydrogen reaction verified by independent scientists, says it is now working with the German electrical giant Siemens AG to add an electricity-generating capability to the device they claim to have under development. (Falls Church News Press; February 29, 2012)
      • Defkalion: Super Secret Government Agents Like Hyperion - OK, so I am being flippant. Defkalion GT's first pronouncement regarding the tests is much the non-statement many expected. • Belgian LANR Patents - In work done over many years, a Belgian industrial chemist and patent attorney, Joannes Van den Bogaert, had several LANR patents granted in his home country of Belgium. While the devices are different in many ways from those currently being researched in the LENR/LANR arena, they also bear striking similarities to them. (E-CatSite; February 27, 2012)
    • Stremmenos intervenes about Hagelstein - Prof. Christos Stremmenos (pictured), has asked me to publish the following letter, by email arrivatami this night, to open a debate on: a precise point of the interview with Maurizio Melis at MIT physicist Peter Hagelstein, sent a few days ago on Radio 24 (22Passi; February 25, 2012)
    • LENR Poses a Challenge and a Problem for Big Science - Big Science is large-scale institutionalized research funded by governments and carried out through large institutions such as universities. Big Science consumes vast amounts of money yet in recent decades it seems to have produced nothing but  rationale for more taxpayer funding. (ColdFusion3; February 26, 2012)
    • Energy Revolution Needed — Can Anyone Deliver LENR to the Masses? - As we look at the current volatility in energy markets where a spike in oil prices is threatening to put even more negative pressure on an already precarious world economy, it is clear that the world is ripe for a better energy solution. NOTE: NOTE: We have replaced the previous Echo comment service with Disqus. The old Echo database of comments has now been imported into Disqus. The old comments are loaded in date received order. This will mean that if say, someone posted a reply a week after a comment was posted, then it will appear before the original post does (in other words jumbling up will occur in the normal Parent/Child pattern of replies) and comments will not follow a logical order. However, comments you have made/make in Disqus since the changeover date will appear in the normal order of appearance.

ADVISORY: With any technology, you take a high risk to invest significant time or money unless (1) independent testing has thoroughly corroborated the technology, (2) the group involved has intellectual rights to the technology, and (3) the group has the ability to make a success of the endeavor.
All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident.
