By Hank Mills
Prof. Christos Stremmenos is a credible, well respected physicist, a former ambassador of Greece, and a member of
Defkalion's board. He is also a personal friend of Andrea Rossi's (the inventor of the
E-Cat
[cold fusion heat technology]) and has posted on his blog, the Journal of Nuclear Physics, multiple times in the past. On October 11th, 2011, Stremmenos posted a statement to the blog, slamming Defkalion on many accounts. He accuses them of lying, making false accusations, and being afflicted with the mental pathology of megalomania.
Being so close to the company, Stremmenos's statements are particularly alarming. Coming from anyone else, the statements would be less concerning. But if anyone should know what Defkalion has been up to and their internal affairs, it is him. The post he made to Rossi's blog seems to be in response to a press release posted by Defkalion, which can be found on their website. Here is the text of Defkalion's
press
release.
The technological breakthrough of LENR (or CANR) is no longer speculation. It is a fact that will eventually change the world’s energy problems and its sociopolitical divides through cheap, clean and green energy. The world needs LENR as a new energy source. Although change will not happen over-night, LENR will help reduce CO2 emissions, lower the cost of energy, and provide longevity to our planet’s energy needs.
Defkalion sees its role with responsibility and asks the community at large to continue its support.
Defkalion has:
• Enhanced technology and engineering on Rossi’s invention or similar inventions
• Prepared business models for international expansion
• Established a strong network of global contacts
• Prepared legislative and certification procedures
• Ensured national, regional and international network in politics and business
• Prepared global financing
Defkalion has worked in close partnership with Andrea Rossi for a very long time to prepare a commercially viable and industrially applicable product using his invention. Defkalion invested a lot of money to evolve Rossi’s E-Cat lab prototype into its Hyperion product. Defkalion is now at the stage where its industrial prototype is ready for production.
Defkalion has held direct business discussions with 62 interested companies who visited our offices in Greece and witnessed our work. Small industry and large energy players internationally were all impressed by our progress in technology and engineering. More are still coming. Despite this phenomenal progress, Defkalion never made promises.
Our aim has always been to inform and demonstrate to public our progress when the final product is ready for use, thereby avoiding any speculations.
Today, Hyperion engineering has completed version 7. We were surprised to see our old designs used in public testing. We were confused why our old designs were implemented wrongly, as well as witnessing insufficient use of instruments and testing protocols. We also identified confidential (yet shown in public) special instruments designed in collaboration with Rossi and prepared by Defkalion. These actions have already paved the way for more negative criticism (unworthy) against the inventor, which do not give credibility to his important work.
The plethora of positive and negative comments is not helpful, as pointed out recently on the Vortex mail archive:
http://www.mail-archive.com/vortex-l@eskimo.com/msg52357.html
Defkalion fully supports and endorses this technology. Our mission is to introduce this technology on a global scale, responsibly. To date, we have self-financed all R&D and business development phases without asking for a single penny from anyone (private or public). We will soon be ready to announce the results of our extensive R&D with Hyperion final products.

Stremmenos responded to Defkalion with the following statement. Please note that it is translated from Greek, so the translation is not perfect. The most important areas of the statement are highlighted by PESN.

Reply
to Defkalion G.T. Inc.
The
statement issued by Defkalion GT Inc. (Athens, 10/10/11 - link)
has come to my knowledge by chance. I feel the moral obligation to
express my opinion, faithful to those convictions which I rendered
public in the past. I maintained then, as I do now, the inviolability
of the following values: scientific truth and its anthropocentric
contribution ... the values of culture, democracy, human civilization,
and of environmental health in the course of their development. My
home country, Greece, is not parochial with respects to these values;
rather, it bears them like a diachronic figure.
The
statement by Defkalion GT Inc. strikes me as megalomaniacal and
presumptuous! Not only does it damage the firm’s own image; in my
opinion, with its patent inaccuracies, it is also damaging to the
cause of an outlook onto a new energy era ... especially for Greece in
its needy economic condition.
I am
expressing my opinion not just on ethical grounds, but also in an
attempt to curb the communicative jubilation expressed by Defkalion GT
Inc., inasmuch as I feel personally responsible for the transfer of
Rossi’s technology to Greece as well as for the very existence of
Defkalion ... a failed instrument of implementation! I therefore state
that:
- One
cannot develop a technology if one does not know the fulcrum on
which it is based.
- Defkalion’s
failure to fulfill its contract for financial reasons has prevented
it from gaining access to the crucial element, i.e. Rossi’s
invention.
- Its
alleged engineering might involve the exploitation of the energy
produced by some ancient oil lamp... or some similar source. More
seriously, computer-rendered sketches devoid of any scientific basis
or long-term experience in the field can yield no support to
statements such as “Enhanced technology and engineering on
Rossi’s invention or similar inventions”!
- The
aluminum fins of a heat exchanger cannot be Defkalion’s industrial
secret! Industrial plumbers invented them many years ago. SERIOUSLY
— it is unfair on Defkalion’s part to accuse ROSSI of using
aluminum fins in an improper manner in a public demonstration!
I could
add to the list of the scientific and technological inaccuracies
therein contained; but I will hesitatingly acknowledge some laborious
albeit clumsy attempts on Defkalion’s part in the economic and
entrepreneurial field, which I shall comment upon as follows:
- Prepared
business models for international expansion. DEFKALION HAD NO RIGHT
TO DRAW UP INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS OUTSIDE OF GREECE AND THE
BALKANS. THEREFORE, IF IT DID DRAW UP AGREEMENTS OUTSIDE OF GREECE
AND THE BALKANS, IT DID SO ILLEGALLY AND WITHOUT ANY AUTHORIZATION.
- Prepared
legislative and certification procedures. HOW COULD HAVE DEFKALION
PREPARED LEGISLATIVE CERTIFICATION PROCEDURES OF THE PRODUCT IF IT
NEVER HAD ANY COGNIZANCE OF THE PRODUCT ITSELF, CONSIDERING IT DID
NOT RESPECT THE FINANCIAL TERMS OF THE CONTRACT? DID IT CERTIFY A
UFO?
- Ensured
national, regional and international network in politics and
business. HAD DEFKALION COMPLIED WITH THE FINANCIAL TERMS OF THE
CONTRACT, IT WOULD HAVE HAD EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS ONLY FOR GREECE AND THE
BALKANS.
- Prepared
global financing. VERY FUNNY! THE REASON WHY THE CONTRACT BETWEEN
ROSSI AND DEFKALION WAS CANCELLED LIES PRECISELY IN THE FACT THAT
DEFKALION PROVED INCAPABLE OF GAINING THE NECESSARY FINANCIAL
RESOURCES.
Finally,
I would like to stress that DEFKALION IS NOT GREECE!... and neither
are A. Xanthoulis and his fanciful communication consultants... I can
assure you that in that firm there are also some good elements...
which have been deactivated.
There are
qualified persons (in that firm) with a long entrepreneurial
experience and a track record of successfully implemented projects
that should be valued without ... a broken continuity.
Now, in
order to answer the question of why Greece can become a means to
realize the use of this green revolutionary technology, and why it was
chosen to be leader in its business applications (Greece and the
Balkans), but hopefully also in the relevant research and technology,
let me point out three basic reasons:
Our
country has no primary energy sources except for lignite and
hydroelectric energy. All other means of energy, especially renewable
energy, rely on imported technology, which reflects greatly on their
cost.
The
current political leadership of our country was always sensitive to
innovation, especially in the field of green energy growth. The
current political leadership has been aware of this technology since
2004; progress reports in this scientific field were expected with
great interest and with the hope that someday there might be some
practical application of this technology.
In our
country one may find businessmen endowed with courage and bravery, but
also with a high patriotic sense of responsibility, willing to risk
and invest in such an important technology. It is not a matter of what
we shall gain from this Homeland of ours, but of what we are ready to
offer our country, especially in these difficult times!
Therefore,
it was quite easy, two years ago, to convince my friends who had for a
long time shared my interest in LENR, Rossi and Focardi, that —
based on the above premises — they would do well to consider Greece
as an interesting point for the development of this technology.
Naturally, the cultural aspect also played its role; the ancient
Greeks are still working for us!

There are many bombshell accusations in the above statement. I will try to explain them to the best of my ability.
First, he accuses Defkalion of megalomania. The following is a definition I found online, "Megalomania is a psycho-pathological condition characterized by delusional fantasies of wealth, power, or omnipotence." This is a bold statement in and of itself, but it even more of a bold statement to make, when you sit on the same company's board of directors.
Secondly, he states that Defkalion does not have the heart of the technology. He should know if they have the heart of the technology or not, because he claims to be the one that transferred information between Rossi and Defkalion. The term, the "heart of the technology", is obviously talking about the proprietary information that makes the reactor of the E-Cat work. For example, the exact size of the nickel powder, the low cost enrichment methods (that increase the amounts of Nickel 62 and 64), and the catalysts used. Rossi has stated he never gave them the information about the catalyst and other proprietary information, and has also stated that Defkalion has never built or tested a working reactor.
Would Rossi and Stremmenos lie about an issue this important?
So now we have two parties claiming that Defkalion was never given the information to build a working reactor. This directly contradicts their claims to have constructed complete finished products, that have working reactor cores.
Thirdly, he claims they are making false statements about engineering concerns. He seems to indicate that they have sketches on a computer, but no experience with real systems. If they do not have the catalyst, then it is obvious they have no experience testing systems, with working reactor cores.
Fourth, he states that the aluminum fins attached to the reactor core cannot be considered as Defkalion's proprietary technology. This is obvious, because fins have been used as part of heat exchangers for decades.
Fifth, he claims that Defkalion has never had any rights to the technology outside Greece and the Balkins. Defkalion has previous claimed that they have the rights to the entire world except the Americas, so apparently -- if his statements are accurate -- they were not being truthful. He goes on to say that any agreements they made outside of Greece and the Balkins were abusive, and were not made with Rossi's authorization. This is a big accusation to make!
Sixth, it seems like he is saying that Defkalion has not obtained all the needed certifications to launch the technology. However, this paragraph is unclear due to the poor translation. They claim to have started the certification process in the first ten days of July, and claimed that they would post the results "very soon." None of these results have been posted yet.
Seventh, he points out that the reason Defkalion and Rossi split was due to the fact they did not pay Rossi an agreed upon sum. By not paying him, they broken the contract. In a recent post to his blog, that was then deleted, Rossi seems to claim that his lawyers are going after Defkalion.

Dear Martin:
These are just clowns.
No other comment is opportune.
I want not to dirt this blog with that shit. My attorneys are taking care of them.

What Does This Mean
If the claims from Stremmenos are accurate -- they should be from someone so close to Defkalion -- then Defkalion has told many lies about their progress developing the technology, their ability to build working reactors, and their ability to obtain certifications.
I hope that they have not been telling lies, and have been 100% truthful. It would be wonderful if they have the information to make a reactor core work, have multiple final products ready for production, and have obtained the certifications needed to launch the technology. However, the statements from Stremmenos cast doubt on their claims.
The simple truth is that Defkalion has never released results from a third party test of the technology, performed a public test of a unit, posted data from a working unit, or posted the
certification test results. In addition, they have never posted a picture of a working unit, a video of a working system, or posted any documentation proving that Rossi gave them the "catalyst" needed to make a working reactor core.
To be clear, we also have no solid evidence their claims are false. We only have the statements of the inventor of the E-Cat technology, and a member of their board.
What we do have from Rossi is several documented tests of his systems, photos of reactor cores, and videos of tests being performed. He has provided huge amounts of evidence, unlike Defkalion.
The simple truth is that when it comes to providing evidence of claims Rossi has provided plenty, while Defkalion has provided near zero, at least publicly. We do not know what they have provided privately, but they need to start providing evidence to the public.
Please Provide Evidence
This would be a great opportunity for Defkalion to produce evidence to back up their claims. If their claims are true, it would be great for them to post....
-- Third party test data.
-- The document in which Rossi gave them the information about the catalyst, with the confidential information about the catalyst blacked out.
-- Any contract they may have with Rossi, that shows they have rights to the whole world except the Americas, and not just the Balkins and Greece.
-- A video of a working device, with third party representatives present.
-- The certification test results from the Greek government.
If they could provide the above evidence, it would prove that they have been given the confidential information to build reactor cores, and have been truthful to the public.
It is regrettable that Rossi and Stremmenos are at odds with Defkalion. The fact is that the world needs this technology very badly, and it would be great if all these parties could cooperate. However, it now seems we have even more proof one party is lying, and this is bringing harm to the entire alternative energy community.
I urge which ever party is not telling the truth, to start being honest. The lies that are being told - whichever party are telling them -- are costing lives, by helping the skeptics make people doubt the claims of both parties. To be blunt, whoever is lying, is helping the skeptics -- that are glad this dispute is taking place -- because it gives them fuel to make posts denying that Ni-H fusion is real.
All parties involved need to be raising awareness of the reality of Ni-H fusion, instead of providing amunition to those who would like to keep the technology suppressed and hidden. Rossi is helping by allowing tests of his devices, allowing data to be obtained, allowing photos and video to be taken, and frequently communicating with the public. Defkalion has been doing hardly any of these things, but they should be.
Email to Defkalion
Here is an email PESN has sent to Defkalion. We will post the response when we receive it.
Dear Defkalion Green Energy Inc.,
As you should be aware, Prof. Christos Stremmenos has joined with Andrea Rossi, to claim that you never were given the proprietary information needed to construct working reactor cores, or how he puts it, "the heart in which it is based." To be specific, I am stating that Andrea Rossi and Christos Stremmenos claim that you do not have the proprietary information to produce the powders and catalysts that go into the metal tube, that contain the Ni-H reactions. Christos Stremmenos has also made other accusations about your company, which also seem to indicate he thinks you have never built a real world, working system that contains a fully functional reactor core -- with the needed catalysts to produce Ni-H reactions. It seems he should know if your company has made such progress or have obtained the catalysts, because he claims to be the one that transferred information between your company and Rossi.
Due to the extreme credibility of Andrea Rossi and Christos Stremmenos, there is now doubt as to the amount of progress your company has made developing full functional products, with working Ni-H reactor cores. Of course there is zero hard evidence that your company is not telling the truth. I think it would be wonderful if your company is telling the truth, and has fully function reactors (with all needed catalysts). Without some evidence from your company that refutes their accusations, it is impossible to accept your company's claims (of having market-ready products).
Please realize the conflict here.
- Defkalion appears to be a credible company, with highly respected board members.
- Rossi is a credible individual, and the inventor of the technology. Also, Christos Stremmenos is a credible individual, and has been very close to your company.
When two sides are both very credible, but are making contradictory statements, it is very difficult to know who to believe.
If you could provide evidence that refutes the accusations made by Stremmenos, it would be very helpful in determining who is telling the truth, and who is not.
Specifically, if you could provide evidence that you were given the catalyst and have built working systems (third party test data or certification test results), it would go far towards clearing up the confusion. The confusion is not about the difference between an E-Cat and a Hyperion, but about who is telling the truth. Despite the fact it would be great if all parties could be cooperating, the contradictions are too clear to ignore. Please do not insult our intelligence by claiming that there is no contradiction, and that both sides have been truthful. Clearly, one side has not been honest, because your claims and the claims of Rossi and Stremmenos are polar opposites. |

Here is what they wrote there,
dated Oct 12, 2011 5:36 pm [Italy time?]
The following open letter was posted in Journal-of-Nuclear-Physics as an answer to his public post/statement in the same blog.
Dear Christo,
It was with profound regret that I read your public letter and personal attacks against Defkalion. I was even more surprised by the obvious contradiction with your status as Honorary Vice President and Head of our company’s R&D. In legal terms, this could be considered by ill-wishers as a breach of contract.
Please recall that we have incurred considerable damage in the recent past from inaccurate statements. For example the announcement of alleged rights of Ampenergo, which are contradictory to our contractual rights with EFA. Christo, as you remember, the contract we signed on November 17, 2010 with EFA, clause 1.13 clearly states that our global presence excludes the USA and military applications.
As a key player involved between the contracted parties, you also signed a document relinquishing your impartiality to become a formal member of Defkalion’s BoD with the position of VP of R&D, which was given to you after your personal request for this position and was unanimously agreed by our BoD.
Since June you have unfortunately missed all of BoD meetings and R&D development breakthroughs. Although you and Rossi received, signed and approved our product designs for Version 3, we have made significant progress since then and are now in Version 7, which leads to a full working prototype ready for production.
Your declaration that "we don’t have the technology" is in contradiction to your recent attempts to entice away our scientists which was not concluded successfully.
We stress again that it is a pity that our designs were applied wrongly, demonstrating in public, immature prototypes with wrong protocols and instruments as explained in our communication on Monday, 10th October.
In all such cases, had there been close cooperation with Defkalion to develop the technology together, as opposed to focusing and putting pressure on us to receive money, many of these unfortunate legal and technical misunderstandings could have been avoided.
As such, all these created serious delays for all contractual parties and for payment to be made according to our contract. You will safely recall that payment is based on the successful demonstration according to protocols and procedures that have been supplied to EFA, whose conditions have not been met yet.
Many will agree that this situation is confusion to the point of comic tragic. Defkalion has the science, the know-how and the ability to proceed, the team, the electronics, the engineering, as well as all the funds required to move this project forward; there is no delusion. Yet, there seems to be a strange urgency to avoid the kick-off of this project but instead just to create negative noise. Defkalion respects your position and friendship, as well as Rossi’s creativity and ingenuity. However, patience has its limits and business has its goals. It would be a shame for Defkalion to move forward in LENR either alone or with alternative technologies.
I hope you agree that such a situation of confusion can only create great consternation. However, Defkalion confirms that it has the organization and professional team, plus all necessary infrastructure in order to direct the availability of funds. I sincerely hope that we shall press the start button together.

Hank Mills wrote:
Defkalion's response does not address many of the issues that Stremmenos discussed in his statement. They claim to have completed a seventh generation of Hyperion, but refuse to specifically state that Stremmenos or Rossi actually transferred to them the "catalyst", and other proprietary information needed to build a working Ni-H reactor core. It would be simple for them to state -- on the record -- that they were given all such confidential information to build working reactors. However, they do not directly dispute the claims of Rossi and Stremmenos, that they were never given such information.
Once again, Defkalion's reluctance to address the key accusations is concerning, because they have not provided any evidence of their claims. They have never demonstrated a single system, posted any test data, or shared the results of the Greek government's certification data. It seems with such bold accusations being made against them, they would be eager to share some evidence to support the idea that they are the innocent party. Apparently, they have no desire to do so.
One possibility is that they have built complete systems with *everything* including electronics, control systems, heat exchangers, and all other needed components, but do not have the actual nickel/catalyst powder to go inside of their kernals. If this is the case their statement of having finished the seventh generation of Hyperion could be at least partially true.
Another possibility is that Rossi and Stremmenos never gave them the catalyst, but they figured out a suitable catalyst on their own. It has already been stated that Rossi found many catalysts that worked, before he found the one he uses now. Could Defkalion be trying to avoid this issue, because using another catalyst -- other than Rossi's -- might violate their contract with him?
The real tragedy of all this, is that if Defkalion has complete working systems that are so far beyond Rossi's, why don't they show them?
It seems to me, that the answer to this controversy is simple: Defkalion needs to show proof they have working reactor cores!
