Thane Heins' Regenerative Acceleration Generator Goes Instead of Stopping
Thane Heins, a native of Ottawa, Canada, has made progress developing his Regenerative Acceleration Generator Technology.
With the use of a special coil design, the technology allows for complimentary torque and electricity to be created in an electric vehicle with no extra power required by the prime mover.
He says that a researcher was fired from the University for
supporting his research.

Thane Heins has been involved in the free energy field since Sept. 11, 2001
(9/11). His company, Potential Difference Inc, has been developing multiple magnetic free energy technologies. One of these technologies is the "Regenerative Acceleration Generator." Another is the bi-toroid transformer or "BiTT." They all offer the possibility of manipulating magnetism and back EMF (Lenz Law) to produce overunity gains of energy. Now, Thane wants to take this research one step further
and has begun constructing a "Kinetic Energy Generating System" that could propel a bicycle without any input from the rider (once the bicycle is up to speed). It is estimated $7,000 dollars worth of funding would allow for the "Kinetic Energy Generating system" to be completed in six months.
The "Kinetic Energy Generating System" would utilize his "Regenerative Acceleration Generator Technology." This technology utilizes special coils that, when loaded, do not cause a wheel or rotor to slow down, but actually are claimed to cause it to accelerate. This is the opposite of the regenerative breaking technology used in some vehicles. Instead of using coils to generate electricity while the vehicle is breaking, coils can be used to *accelerate* the wheels of a vehicle while producing electricity at the same time.

He says that the regenerative acceleration effect is possible, because the magnetic field induced in the coil is delayed until the rotor magnet is at top dead center. Until the rotor magnet is directly at top dead center, the coil acts as a capacitor and does not produce a magnetic field. Once the rotor magnet is at top dead center, the coil changes from acting like a capacitor to behaving like an inductor. He says "an inductor stores [energy] in the external magnetic field of the coil; but when it acts like a capacitor, [the energy] is stored in the internal, electrostatic field." After switching to being an inductor, the magnetic field produced pushes the rotor magnet at top dead center away, and attracts the next rotor magnet. Basically, this is a way to get around Lenz' Law, which is what prevents typical electric motor and generator from being overunity. This effect is explained in more detail in a
video that has been posted to YouTube.
Thane says that all conventional generators could function in this manner as well.
The effect has been observed by quite a few people in academia, and was even set up for a few years in a lab at the University of Ottawa. Students wrote papers and built generators based on the concept.

Lab, as well as Markus Zahn of MIT both confirmed that indeed acceleration takes place as described, when deceleration would be expected.
He has not yet documented just how much energy is showing up in the system. His demonstrations have been geared more toward executives, not scientists, showing simple and obvious effects. One of the primary obstacles has been an article that was published by the Toronto Star that labeled it "perpetual motion," rather than pointing out that a theoretical model had not yet been worked out that explained where the excess energy was coming from.
It turns out that a university professor who was advising Nikola Tesla said that his induction motor wouldn't work because it
would amount to a "perpetual motion machine." Obviously that professor was wrong.
Thane told Sterling: "Our generator produces more than 200% more electrical
power over conventional generators, with 40% less power going to the prime mover; at the same operating
speed and drive shaft torque". When asked if he envisions his generators being able to provide base load power,
continuously self-running with power left over for practical use, Thane said, "Yes."
When reviewing this story prior to publication, Thane gave the following
clarification regarding the above paragraph:
am very sorry -- didn't completely understand this question in the interview
-- I meant continuous power to a load in concert with the
prime mover at a fixed input. A conventional generator will supply decreasing
amounts of power to a load with a fixed prime mover input. The
greater the load in a conventional system, the less output from the generator
until the generator causes the prime mover to stop. The Regenerative
Accelerator Generator can theoretically supply and infinite amount of power to
a load with the same prime mover input without causing any deceleration -- but
Our empirical evidence has not shown any magnitude of output power that will
cause the Regenerative Acceleration Generator to cause deceleration. Our
assumption, based on the evidence at hand, is that there is no upper
limit. The universe may have other ideas. However we just have not
experienced it yet.

Thane thinks it would take at least six months to get something ready for market, by a company interested in licensing to do this. Potential Differences, Inc. is an R&D company to create IP, not final products.
He also said that the technology is "almost a no-brainer, it is so simple. Anyone can do it, and it doesn't take a long time. He told about an internet user,
who built a generator in one day, getting it to work based on what he saw on YouTube.
A personal mandate of Potential Differences, Inc. is to devise a way to have an infinite range electric car. They have a one-page document presenting the components that would go into such a system.
Thane said that multiple companies, including Chrysler, GE, Mercedes-Benz, and
Nissan have contacted Potential Difference and have expressed an interest in this technology. The IP is actually free for any company to develop (except ten thousand dollars for legal fees to setup the licensing agreement), with the understanding that after products start being sold, the company will share the profits with Potential Difference Inc.
When a new Director of Engineering, Dr. Emil Petriu recently came into the University of Ottawa, he refused
Thane's multiple requests to see a demonstration and to learn that the
technology is not a perpetual motion machine as the director assumed; but just discounted the claim based on his prejudice of "known laws of physics", and began endeavoring to remove the project from the premises and pressure anyone involved to distance themselves.
Thane has also described how his friend and fellow researcher Nic Olivieri
was recently fired from the University of Ottawa after sixteen years of service.
Nic said the firing is linked to his support of Potential Difference's technology. Thane said
Nic had made some mildly critical comments about the university during a recent
interview with the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) that was aired
on July 26, 2011, talking about the technology and the university's
unwillingness to explore new ideas; and this probably contributed to his being
fired. He still has access to his lab, but doesn't get paid to manage the lab
Here are some questions we asked Thane in an email, along with his answers:
Q. If the regenerative acceleration generator coils can cause a rotor to accelerate while producing electrical power at the same time, why have a continual input to prime mover?
At this point in time if the prime mover is disconnected the system will stop. The torque supplied by the prime mover and the complimentary torque created by the generator need to work in concert to provide continuous electrical power.
The Kinetic Energy Generator bike application is a different upgraded design where much stronger magnets are going to be employed and at least 20 coils instead of just 1 or 2 as per our display prototypes. The generator coils will be designed to only create motive torque and NO electrical power. We get the maximum torque when the generator coils are shorted out as opposed to sending power to a battery or light bulb.
Q. If the rotor is accelerating, it means that energy (torque) is being added to it.
Yes there must be some torque source to create acceleration - either from the prime mover or the generator.
Q. It seems you could just spin up a rotor with magnets on it, turn off the power to the rotor (the airgun for example), add the regenerative acceleration generator coils, and the rotor would keep spinning continuously. Why don't you perform such a test?
A. We are! This is the basis for the Kinetic Energy Generator bike trailer idea where we are going to be doing just that but in a "real life application" getting away from "lab bench" demo units which people are critical of no matter what we show. A bicycle and rider accelerating down the road while the rider is NOT pedaling should put an end to all debate once and for all.
Basically, it is this
generator scenario on wheels, with many more coils.
Thane's technology is very interesting, and has many applications. It seems like the two most obvious applications are electrical generators and vehicles with
a potentially unlimited range. Thane has actually produced an overview about the technologies that could be incorporated into an unlimited range vehicle. They would include the regenerative acceleration technology, the BiTT transformer, and traditional technologies such as solar panels.
Hopefully, we will learn more about this technology in the future. If it works as he has claimed, it could be an energy breakthrough.
