Patent Office Forces E-Cat Self-Destruct Capability
To preserve intellectual property and trade secrets, because the patent
office is dragging its feet in granting a patent, Andrea Rossi is being forced to design a self destruct mechanism to be built into every E-Cat (Energy
Catalyzer) used by the public. This could delay the public (non-industrial) launch of the technology.

Andrea Rossi's cold fusion E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) technology is based on hard science, but is nothing short of a miracle. It provides a technology that could completely solve the world's energy crisis. The E-Cat consumes tiny amounts of cheap fuel (nickel and hydrogen), and produce huge amounts of energy for long periods of time. It does so without generating any pollution, radioactivity, or nuclear waste. However, the critical patents covering the technology and the protections for the proprietary "catalysts" used have not yet been granted. This has pressured Andrea Rossi into deciding the technology cannot be launched for use by individuals for home use, until he has designed a self destruct mechanism to be built into every unit.
The reason for including this self destruct mechanism is that if someone opened the reaction vessel of an E-Cat, they could obtain all the "secrets" in a short period of time. Without patent protection in the form of granted patents, this could give away key information to competitors, and potentially even invalidate patents that are still pending.
Here are a few of the comments Rossi has made about this issue on his blog, "The Journal of Nuclear Physics."

OK,
I understand that you can not discuss the details surrounding the catalyst.
But will you later be able to discuss this, or will this part forever be a company secret?
And is not the catalyst function important for the theoretical physics explanation behind it all?

Dear Dr. Rossi,
thank you for your reply. You write you are being conservative regarding the sales of single modules. But if Defkalion/AmpEnergo plans to produce 300 000 units per year do you think you will be able to prevent just one of them ending up in China? In my opinion you will be very wealthy from the royalties from Europe/US, but the Chinese will hack the security features and produce their own. Or am I wrong on this assumption?
Kind regards,
Greg

Dear Greg:
Defkalion, I suppose, will not sell modules until the protection issue [is] resolved.

Dear Dr. Rossi,
in my opinion, within one month the Chinese buy the first E-Cat they will reproduce it. They showed no respect for patents/intellectual property in the past. How will you prevent this from happening?
Thanks,
Greg

Dear Greg:
Good point.
This is why we are very conservative regarding the sale of single modules. We are engineering a system that will destroy automatically the confidential parts if the reactor is open. The reactors will be open only in our factory to replace the charge. This is why we want not to replace the charges on site.
Warm regards,

Dear Mr Rossi,
You have said
We have to resolve the problem to make them self-destructive in case of opening the reactors
. Is this necessary if you have a patent? Is it possible to achieve this against someone with sophisticated tools and equipment? Wont your secret necessarily be in the public domain once the technology is widely distributed?
All the best with the project. I am checking in regularly and looking forward to your success in October.
Best regards from the UK

Dear Mr Alan C.:
1- I have not yet an international patent granted, I have a National patent granted, the international application is still pending
2- It is difficult to make this self destruction technology, this is why it will take time. We must find a way that is not dangerous for the persons, but that annihilates instantaneously all the sensible information if somebody tries to open the sealed parts
3- I have to defend the People that have invested in this. And I will.
Warm regards,

Dear Mr Rossi,
I read that there wont be any implementations in Italy soon.
Are you talking about the industrial aspect? What about the private use of the E-Cat? Will it be available in Italy too?
Best regards

Dear Mr Riccardo:
I think that the household targeted items will arrive later. We have to resolve the problem to make them self-destructive in case of opening the reactors. Otherwise, with few thousands of dollars anybody has access to the confidential aspects of the technology. In industrial plants this issue is more easy to afford and has been resolved.

Life Saving Technology Denied
From reading Andrea Rossi's comments, it seems the technology will not be released for use by individuals (use in homes) any time soon, unless the patents involved are granted. It is an absolute tragedy that due to the delays of the U.S. Patent Office (and their policy of not granting patents to "cold fusion" processes), the E-Cat may only see use in industrial settings for some time to come.
It is very possible that there will be lives lost due to this delay, and much unnecessary human suffering. The world is in economic collapse, and many people around the world could benefit from a cheap device that could economically power their home or small business. An E-Cat device could provide the energy needed to economically pump water from wells in drought stricken areas, be used as a brute force method of water desalinization, provide an alternative to high cost heating oil in frigid areas, and help countless individuals that live in poverty make ends meet.
E-Cat units could also provide crucially needed power for areas hit by natural disasters. Being able to buy cheap electricity from the power company does not mean anything if the grid is down due to tornadoes, hurricanes, or earthquakes. With small, portable E-Cat units power could be quickly restored to hospitals, emergency response centers, areas where the electrical infrastructure was not destroyed, and even individual homes.
There are many ways in which personal E-Cat units could benefit individuals. If the U.S. Patent Office does not grant these patents, there will be blood on their hands. They will be literally taking clean water out of the mouths of infants, stealing food off the plates of children, slapping poverty stricken people in the face, and contributing to the financial decline of the world. Some may claim that this blood would be on Rossi's hands, but that is not the case. He has done everything needed to get the technology ready for mass production, so it can help as many people as possible. Now, we are simply waiting on the Patent Office to grant the patents, and say the word, "go."
The patent office, the powers that be, and pathological skeptics have suppressed cold fusion technology for decades. If you examine the history of cold fusion, you will see how legitimate research was squashed, how researchers were ridiculed, and how countless cold fusion related patent applications were denied. The villain here is not Andrea Rossi, but the corrupt system in place that fights against cold fusion pioneers.
This suppression must end.
Solutions
The big question in my mind is how can we insure that the Rossi technology is able to be sold to individuals immediately, while making sure the intellectual property is protected. I've pondered several ideas, but I do not know if they are feasible.
One possibility, is to try and come up with good ideas for a self destruct system, and pass them onto Rossi. However, without knowing the elemental composition of the catalysts and the exact internal structure of the setup, it would be difficult to design an effective system.
Another possibility would be to get a pledge drive going. Individuals could pledge only to purchase cold fusion (LENR) devices that are licensed by Andrea Rossi. If enough people signed up (millions), it might provide some amount of insurance that even if his competitors obtained his secrets, that they would not steal his customers. However, I do not know if we could obtain enough signatures.
Perhaps another way of insuring competitors do not steal market share if they obtained his secrets, would be for him to offer pre-orders of E-Cat units. A series of additional demonstrations could be held once the one megawatt plant in Xanthi is launched. These demos could entice millions of people to make preorders.
Of course the best thing we could do is find a polite and non-violent way to pressure the U.S. Patent Office grant his patents. I'm not sure what would be the best way to go about doing this. We would not want it to backfire against us, and anger the Patent Office into refusing to grant the patents.
Reader Ideas
Do any of you reading this article have ideas that could potentially solve this situation? If so, please post them in the comment section, or you can contact me through Sterling. I, for one, want an E-Cat unit of my own as soon as possible. I am sure many of you do too. If we work together and combine our brainpower we should be able to come up with a solution, or at least some good ideas.
We cannot let suppression by the Patent Office delay the public launch of this technology by even one year, month, week, or day!

Patent Expedition Suggestion

I have a friend who is a patent examiner with the US Patent office, I spoke
to him today for an hour about this situation and I think I may have a solution
to the fact that the Patent Office is backed up with most all new patent
applications taking two to three years or more to be issued ?
I had him go into the US Patent office website and look at Mr. Rossi's patent
application which was submitted in Sep. 2010 and published (made visible to the
public on line) in Jan. 2011.
He told me that there was No indication that there was any particular hold up
in examining this patent application, Just that the Patent Office had not yet
gotten around to examining it, He told me it was scheduled to be examined by an
examiner in the mechanical device division.
He also told me about methods to "Petition to Accelerate the Examination !"
As you can see in the link below and the most important part cut and pasted
below that, That if an inventor's invention is important to the environment, to
a government agency (US Military !), if the inventor is 65 years old or
older, If the inventor's has health problems etc. etc. That he can Petition to
have his patent application examination accelerated !!
How old is Mr. Rossi ?, How is his health ? This definitely will be
good for the environment and the US military will definitely want to use this
device widely.
Can you get this information to Mr. Rossi and his patent attorney?
