Joseph Newman's "runs itself" motor demonstration in Denton TX
On Saturday, June 26, 2010, Joseph Newman held a 'historic event'
demonstration in Denton, TX in which he showed a 3 ton electric motor plus load,
in an arrangement that he claimed "basically runs itself". Travis
Norman attended and estimates the motor efficiency at between 95 and 125
percent.

On Saturday, June 26, 2010, Joseph Newman held a 'historic
event' demonstration in Denton, TX in which he showed a 3 ton electric motor
plus load, in an arrangement that he claimed "basically runs
itself". We asked if any of you might be attending, and if you could
report on what you saw. Travis Norman
responded. He said: "I am an electronic tech and have done free energy research since 1979;
and I know how Newman's motor works."
On June 28, he provided the following report: (slightly edited)
Hi Sterling,
I took some pics and shot a video while I was there.
One is 9 plus minutes, and the other is 7 plus minutes.
I have been an electronics tech now for 34 yrs now, mostly in the instrumentation field.
I was trained in electronics by the Navy back in 1975. I have been researching in the free energy field since 1979.
I have a strong science back ground education -- mostly physics and chemistry.
I have followed Joseph Newman's work since I saw his small motor powering a fan.
It ran off of 3000 volts at 9 milliamps.
The last video demonstration I saw of his was when this motor ran at 250v at 1 amp under load.
He was using a 375 pound mud pump, which I believe is the same pump I saw Saturday.
Then he was pumping water up 10 feet and comparing it to a conventional motor pump pumping the same amount up the same 10 foot head at the approx. GPM
[gallons per minute] flow-rate.
Saturday the pump was 5 feet above ground, pumping water back into a reservoir on the ground.
I estimate the flow-rate was no more than 50 GPM. at 160 rpm at the start of the demonstration.
His input power was 60 each 9v alkaline batteries in series.
He started the demonstration at a measured 9.47 volts per battery. After about 1.5 hours of run time he measured the battery at 7.5 volts unloaded.
His motor was then running at 115 rpm. it appeared that there was a rpm to voltage input correlation.
When he starts the motor, he starts it by hand and then steps voltage up from about 50v to the full voltage from the batteries in 7 or 8 steps till the motor comes up to speed.
I asked him what the input current was and he said 5 to 15 milliamps. He did not have it metered.
540 volts times 15 milliamps is 8.1 watts.
However in a DVD he handed out to everybody, he was powering the same motor with a veriac auto transformer from the ac line to a step up transformer with rectification for high voltage dc.
He measured 22 volts at 2.5 amps which is 55 watts which would explain why his battery pack (65 watt/hr) went technically dead in 1.5 hrs.
The hydraulic power at 50 GPM (max) at a 2.5 PSI head pressure is 54 watts.
This is my best estimate of the pump output on the high-side.
He has a high voltage capacitor to capture back emf from his coil and is probably feeding it back into a second coil.
He said the voltage was 1000v on this capacitor.
His "runs itself" quote was after he disconnected the battery it ran for 2 minutes under pump load before coming to a complete stop.
Some of this might be due to the 477 pound flywheel and the1200-lb magnet in the rotor.
How much is due to the back emf on the capacitor is unknown.
From the vagueness of the demonstration I personally place the motor's efficiency between 95% to 125%.
I believe the motor to be more efficient the higher the input voltage.

The hydraulic gpm is based on the observed estimated dimensions of the pump
The 120mahr battery by the 1.5 hour run to dead battery voltage gave the estimated ma draw at the start
His dvd did measure volts and amps and I clock the rpms at 140
55 watts electric and 54 watts hydraulic
The hydraulic estimate is on the high side
His demonstration needs improvement, he is claiming 10 hp out
I didn't see the dvd till I got home and I gave the max estimate in his favor
if his motor puts out 110% and no more than 5000watts shaft max, how much does his motor cost at 7000lbs+ if it is more than 10k dollars it is uneconomical

Note that Newman "loses it" and insults the student who asked a simple and entirely polite and appropriate question "Why don't you close the loop?" after Newman says he can -- see video #4 at time index 9:00 -- he calls the guy stupid and raves on, making no sense when the student simply calls him out on what he, himself, said the machine could do.
