Boswell Power Production Unit Videos Posted
Claims that something turning in a 5-gal. bucket elevated on a 4-foot
PVC pipe, having 12-gauge wire coming from it is producing 5.4 kW and has been
powering his home for months.
A little over a month ago, we reported
on a technology by Jim Boswell, in which he claimed to have a wind turbine power
production unit capable of making 3 kilowatts continuously, regardless of the
wind. He said he had been selling these since December of 2007, and that
he had sold "several hundred" already. And that was an
insignificant technology compared to another one that he installed on his
3/4-ton pick-up, producing 400 horsepower. He was considering maybe open
sourcing that one.
He told me that he was going to provide data from his engineer, photos, customer
testimonials, video, and other documentation of his claims.
However, right after I posted the story,
and inquiries began flooding in, he told me that he was occupied with
pre-existing commitments, and that it would be about a couple of weeks or more
before he could dedicate time to this project; but that he would send me info as
he received it.
The one photo he did provide turned out to have a sister
image on a Chinese website -- clearly a standard wind turbine. He
acted puzzled and said that his manufacturer in China must be going around him,
and he was going to bring his operations back to the U.S.
With inquiries continuing to pour in, I sent him occasional emails and left him
phone messages, to remind him to get me some of that documentation he promised.
A couple of weeks later, he finally phoned me again. He was upset with me
for several reasons. Most of all, he was upset that I had said that even if his
family was threatened, he should not cower to the bullies he said were
threatening him, and that he should do the right thing and bring the technology
forward. He has said that he would bury the technology if his family were
threatened.
I think of an analogy from a short film I saw as a teen. It portrayed a
man whose job it was to run a bridge over which a train passed, but which
switched to allow boats to pass. One day, as a passenger train full of
people was coming down the tracks, the bridge rail did not seat properly, and he
had to use a lever to manually pry it into place. Just then he saw his
young son running toward him across the bridge, in peril's way. Had he let
go of the lever, he could have run to save his son, but then the passenger train
would have careened into the river.
So when I suggested to Jim that as a Christian he should be willing to follow
the example of Jesus, he was offended, saying I was asking him to put his family
in jeopardy, when what I was saying was that the human family needs the
technology he claims to have, and to withhold it from them just for the sake of
a threat against his own family was not the highest path for him or for the
planet.
Likewise, I was upset with him for not providing us with any evidence to back
his claim. He balked at allowing one of our people to come see his unit
and take measurements. He balked at allowing me and Joel Garbon and Jeane
Manning to come by while we were in the area for our recent lecture
series in Silicon Valley. And he expected us to believe that of all
the hundreds of "satisfied customers" who had his product powering
their house with no need for fuel that none of them had been curious about how
it worked or gone to the media or were willing to come forth to provide
testimonials.
He said I would be sorry when his technology was fully vindicated. It told
him I would be very glad for that.
We've not spoken since, other than an email he sent me threatening to sue me
because I had written "probably bogus" at the opening of the story I
had composed about his technology. He had demanded that I remove the
entire story because it was effecting his ability to do business with it's
negative spin. I just removed "probably bogus" and left
"This technology has not been validated yet."
So today I found out that he has finally posted a video showing his
device. His YouTube username is JimBoswell2008,
and as of today he has four videos posted, none of which give any kind of
believable evidence that he has what he claims to have. If anything, they
argue against his claim.
The approximate 13-gauge wires emerging from his alleged device are far too
small to convey more than a few hundred watts safely. He doesn't show
where the wires to the meter are hooked up. There is no wind turbine blade
that was supposedly part of the unit originally installed to get the unit
running. He claims that his home power unit can be installed in an hour,
while costing $15,000. He says nothing about conditioning the power to
make it sync with the grid. The unit appears like something a Junior High
student could whip up in a couple of hours for a cheap trick. One drill in
the bottom bucket, with a shank turning the gismo in the top bucket would do
what he shows. He seems oblivious to the need to satisfy any of these
misgivings that any thinking person is going to have. Then he wonders why
no one he talks to in the government, etc. pays attention to him.
Electromagnetic power production unit - "This
is a basic and unedited video showing Jim's electromagnetic power
production unit. In the video this invention produces over 5KW of
continuous power! ..." (YouTube;

In his comments he says:
"...This one was my ORIGINAL prototype. The new version is silent. The power is what is
important. The model I will manufacture is silent, a little larger, encased in a manufactured aluminum
case. This video shows I have built a product that produces 5KW, with an electromagnetic motor assembly of my design that uses NO OTHER POWER
SUPPLY. The average person can power their home for free. We can build power plants that will power cities for
pennies, offset billions of tons of carbon emissions
The one thing I did find quite interesting were the two follow-up videos he
posted of a PG&E car that parked out in front of his house the day after he
posted that video. He even zooms in on the license plate and the PG&E
cone placed behind the car. His video description says:
"The alleged electric company employee ignored me and left in his vehicle immediately after I asked him why he was at my home. He did not check any other homes.
This happened the morning after I released my power production video."

In the first video posted to his account last September, he sits next to a
fan that he says is powered by his technology. He holds up a plug that he
says goes to the fan, but he doesn't even bother to show the base of the fan to
show that the plug goes to the fan.
Amazing new green
technology - "This is the most amazing technology on the
market. From residential and commercial power production to self power
producing streetlights, power production substations that produce over
40 megawatts for a fraction of the price of what we use now. This guy
even has an automotive engine that uses no gas, diesel, water or oil and
can drive from California to New York without stopping. ..."

I have to admit that I was hoodwinked by Jim's story last month, based on his
word alone, and I was foolhardy to believe him without first having some kind of
evidence to back it up. I apologize to those of you who follow my news and
expect better from me. I totally missed it on this guy.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.
Guys like this muddy the water for the inventors who actually have something
worth while, making it even harder to believe them when they come along, jading
those who hitherto might have been more apt to believe.

For updates on the technology as we become aware of them.
I tried to work with Sterling Allen, but he was pushy, he wanted a very large
percentage of the prodits, he wanted everything on his terms, he wanted a
contract signed immediately even before testing and then he said my beautiful
wife and 3 small children can be murdered and it was ok as long as the
technology was released to the people. I will never agree to this and I am
attempting to get this to the people. He loved my products unitl I told him he
will NEVER own one of my designs. He is a nut!

On April 17, 2009, Sterling responded:
Jim is grossly exaggerating and twisting what happened.
> "... was pushy"
I merely expected Jim to come through with what he promised when he said he
would do it, e.g. "I'll get some photos and testimonial .. tomorrow
morning." (Hasn't happened yet.)
> "he wanted a very large percentage"
I was making proposals, in negotiations/brainstorming. We (PES and
NEC) can bring a lot to the table.
> "he wanted everything on his terms"
Not so, I just expected that Jim would follow through with what he promised to
do.
> "he wanted a contract signed immediately even before testing"
I suggested that we work up draft. I wasn't pushing to sign. It's
just good to get to know what each other expects.
> "he said my beautiful wife and 3 small children can be murdered and
it was ok as long as the technology was released to the people."
That is not how I put it. See my above statement. I believe that
the hero for the planet puts the good of humanity before him or herself, and
that it is not good to give in to bullies. They thrive on fear, and when
we allow them to scare us, they win.
> "He loved my product until I told him he will NEVER own one of my
designs."
I would love it if he really does have what he claims. My experience
with him, though, indicates that it is very unlikely that he really does have
this -- certainly not "several hundred sold."

I Know How This Works
On Apr. 13, 2009, CG emailed the following then phoned and said he saw a
system like this operating before and knows how it works, and that he's been
working to replicate the effect:
Sterling,
I would be glad to explain to you how Boswell is powering his generator. When I get off work today I can give you a call. Meanwhile ponder on the equation below for some clues. Consider Tj = 0 if you induce the torque required to accelerate the inertia of the system from zero RPM with an external force. There are no laws of thermodynamics or conservation of energy violated.
Once the load has been characterized, one may write an equation of the form:
Tm = Tj + Tv + Tc + Tf + Tu
Where:
Tm = torque developed by the motor
Tj = torque required to accelerate the inertia of the system
Tv = torque required by any viscous friction loads
Tc = constant torque by the load
Tf = torque required by any fluid loading
Tu = torque required by any unusual loads
with all torques referred to the motor shaft.
ADVISORY: With any
technology, you take a high risk to invest significant time or money
unless (1) independent testing has thoroughly corroborated the
technology, (2) the group involved has intellectual rights to the
technology, and (3) the group has the ability to make a success of
the endeavor.
All
truth passes through three stages:
First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident.
