Orbo: Steorn Raises the Curtains
The company that stirred the scientific community in 2003 with their claim of a
magnet motor technology, today posted two videos, announcing that they are soliciting
teams of engineers and commercial interests to become part of a developer group
of 300 to prepare the technology for market rollout.
After displaying a curtain with today's date this morning, Steorn
later opened their site, displaying a couple of new videos on their home page, a
suite of magnetic measurement tools, and a header link "SKDB",
where there are several pages elaborating a solicitation to teams of engineers and commercial interests to become part of a core
of developers who will take a working principle and build embodiments which can
then be implemented through license.
"SKDB" stands for Steorn Knowledge Development Base.
Basically it will be an intranet for 300 qualified engineers selected to be on the inside in
learning, defining, refining, and developing the core working concept. (Ref.)
One video is labeled: "Orbo 2009 launch", and includes interviews with several
credentialed scientists who attest to having seen and measured the Orbo
prototype to their satisfaction, confirming that there is "more energy
going out than was put in".
The other is labeled: "Sign up for the SKDB 300" and invites qualified
interested parties to become part of the development team. In a first stage, 300 technology developers and interested industries are selected to develop practical applications of the Orbo technology. Later, information will be made available to science, innovators, early adopters, special interest groups and the interested public.
The intro video concludes with, CEO, Sean McCarthy saying: "Our objective
is to get this into the hand of developers this year, and to create an
environment where those developers can rapidly accelerate that into a real world
product."
The site states:
"As a ground breaking technology, Orbo provides a new approach to
powering existing products, and a platform for developers to bring new
innovative products to market.
"Orbo technology provides engineers and application developers
constant power, zero emissions and a fuel-less mechanism for the generation of
energy / motive power at the point of use.
"Orbo technology is of application to a wide range of industries,
allowing new flexibility in system design by removing many traditional
technology constraints." (Ref.)
Auxiliary Products
Along with Orbo, Steorn has developed some auxiliary products to supplement
the research and development and testing process.
According to their Feb. 4 press release: "SteornLab is a range
of laboratory and test equipment targeted at organizations developing rotary
and magnetic systems. The first two SteornLab products are available to
purchase from today."
"A second technology range, ZeroF passive magnetic bearings, is
scheduled for commercial launch during summer 2009."
Steorn's Orbo History Recap
Prior to their foray into magnet motors, for many years Steorn developed technology to help combat counterfeiting and fraud in the plastic card and optical disc industries.
In 2003 Steorn undertook a project to develop more efficient micro generators. Early into this project the company developed certain generator configurations that appeared to be over 100% efficient. Further investigation and development has led to the company's present
patent-pending, all-magnet motor technology which allegedly produces free energy.
On July 4, 2007, Steorn ran a widely publicized demo of their free energy prototype at the Kinetica Museum in London, promised to be streamed live around the world; but it opened with the device not working, spurring
intense "I told you so" skepticism. (Ref.)
Today's curtain-raising is essentially their first announcement since that
botched demo; and this time they don't show anything running, they just show
reputable scientists attesting that they have seen and measured the Orbo
technology to their satisfaction.
McCarthy said:
"After six years of research and development, Steorn launches the first
of the four technology streams associated with the development of Orbo
technology. 2009 represents a turning point for Steorn, Orbo and our other
technology ranges. It marks the end of a long cycle of R&D and sees us
making a strong push towards commercialisation - our plans show the business
reaching profitability in the next 12 to 18 months."
McCarthy was recently featured on television, talking about the economy and
his technology in particular. This was a strong indication that they had
not crawled under a rock.

Openings for the SKDB
It's one thing to have a working concept. It's quite another to then build
it into practical embodiments. Steorn's global-team approach is to be
commended, and is certainly an interesting road to take, sort of a hybrid between
open sourcing and the traditional IP-protecting/exclusive approach.
Those who will become part of the SKDB 300 will have access to instructional
materials about the operation of the technology, as well as the ability to participate in focused development forums on the various aspects
of the
technology, from theory, to research and development, to device development, to
marketing strategies. Some will have commercial licensing interest, but
not all.
This isn't going to happen right away, apparently. According to their press
release, "The Steorn commercialization and e-learning platform, SKDB, will
launch alongside the much-anticipated Orbo technology towards the end of
2009.
"The final testing of the SKDB commences with a call for 300 engineering
organizations / qualified engineers to sign up. There will be no subscription
charge for those involved in this final testing phase, just a requirement to
enter into our standard developer license agreement."
