Steorn scientific jury selection proceeding
Company rocked the world in August with its announcement of a free
energy device using permanent magnets, calling for a jury of skeptical,
qualified scientists to confirm their results. Following an overwhelming
response, Steorn will now begin contacting applicants on its shortlist to
establish their availability.

DUBLIN, IRELAND -- On August 18, 2006, the technology-development company Steorn
took out a full-page ad in The Economist to announce to the world that
they had built a free energy device that violates known laws of physics, and
which could solve the world's need for clean energy.
The technology is said to be based on the interaction of magnetic fields,
resulting in the continuous production of clean, free energy. The company
asserts that the technology can be applied to virtually all devices requiring
energy, from cellular phones to cars.
The ad stated that they were accepting applications from the most qualified
and the most cynical scientists to serve on a jury of 12 to jointly evaluate
the technology and to either confirm or refute their claim.
By the time they stopped accepting preliminary applications on Sept. 8, over
5,000 people had signed up. Initial sorting showed that only about one -fifth of
these had valid credentials. On Sept 13th, Steorn sent an email to a narrowed
list of scientists who had applied to serve on the jury, asking for details of
their academic qualifications.
On Sept 27th, Steorn sent a follow-up email stating that that midnight, 5th
October 2006, had been set as the deadline for receipt of career synopses.
Steorn will now generate a shortlist from all the synopses received by that
deadline. Then, beginning on Oct. 9, Steorn intends to take about two weeks to
contact applicants on the shortlist to judge their availability as potential
jury members. Steorn will then start the final jury selection process.
The dozen scientists selected will take part in a rigorous testing exercise to
prove whether or not Steorns technology creates "free" energy. The
results will be published worldwide.
Sean McCarthy, CEO of Steorn, commented:
The invitation to test our technology has resulted in an excellent
response. We have spent the past few weeks examining the responses in detail
and as a result have reduced the number of people under consideration for the
jury from the original 5,000 to several hundred. We are now drawing this phase
of the process to a close and will eliminate applicants that fail to meet the
deadline for submission of academic and professional qualifications as well as
those who prove to be not suitably qualified.
Once we have finalized our shortlist of potential jury members and verified
their credentials we will begin appointing the jury of 12. The jury will
comprise the most qualified scientists who are prepared to test the technology
and publish their findings to the world, whatever those findings turn out to
be.
Steorn anticipates that testing will begin early in the New Year. The precise
timetable for the testing phase will be determined by the 12 jurors, as will the
location and format of the test process.
