INTENTIONAL WILD GOOSE CHASE

Account of how Robert Calloway admitted to leading Sterling Allan on an intentional wild goose chase in the name of helping him to get his magnet motor to successfully run.

On Jan. 13, 2006, Robert Calloway contacted me by email.  He said he saw the video of the Perendev replication we (PerenTech) did, and that he had some tips on how to make it self-run.  The implication was that he had figured this out and was willing to help me get mine to run as well.

I then commenced an email and phone dialogue with him.  He gave me some tips, the implication being that they would result in a functional magnet motor, and that they were general principles for all magnet motors.  Because I am one who likes to share what I know with others for their benefit as well, to help humanity, I asked for and received his permission by phone to publish these in an open source format. He just requested that his name not be attached.

After composing the material into a news story, I ran it by Robert for review, with a request that he give some kind of confirmation that he does indeed have a working device based on these instructions.  He responded that he would not verify, and that he had intended the plans only for my viewing, and not for publication -- contradicting his earlier permission given by phone.

Seeing some serious discrepancies in this about-face, I counted the story a loss, at least for then, and let it sit idle.

Meanwhile, on Feb. 5, after receiving notice that Robert now had a website, I got his permission to use a quote from him about magnet motors in general operating on a principle of tapping the electron spin, which I posted in the Feb. 7 FreeEnergyNews.  (Ref.)  I hoped that this apparent ice-melting meant that he would come around some time soon to allowing me to publish the instructions he had given earlier, believing them to be authentic.

Then this morning, Feb. 10, I received two emails from Robert.  One said, "I have released full information on my website on how the engine works."  The second was a copy of one of the pages from his site publicly apologizing to me for having provided intentionally false information.

I then spent the day revising the news story (below), based on the new information he had on his site.  I then sent him an email with a link to the story so he could review it.  He responded, saying, "The (keys) are wrong. The drawing is wrong, and the explanation is wrong. You have to go by the explanation on my website."

I had gone from his explanation, so I was puzzled.

He sent another email message with a new diagram, and it did not show the stator magnets at 90 degrees from the rotor magnets, which had been the primary component in the earlier instructions.  I had even included "90d" in the name of the earlier document based on that alleged key.

It then dawned on me that that whole thing with him telling me what to do to get my motor to work had been an intentional wild goose chase on his part.  And it dawned on me why he was apologizing.  But in my opinion, the apology was not enough.  How was I to know this most recent information wasn't also bogus?

I phoned him up this evening to make sure I had comprehended correctly that the whole bit about the stator magnets being set 90 degrees from the rotor magnets was intentionally incorrect.  He confirmed, and said that this had been why he had published that apology.

I then responded that in order for him to get his credibility back with me that I would have to see a video of the device running.

He said, "then just forget it."

I publish this as a heads up, first regarding Robert Calloway; second as a story about what humans are capable of pulling, so that you might be more cautious than I was in this case.

I had respect for Robert.  He had claimed to have a functioning Bowman motor a couple of years ago, and seemed to be trying to help others to replicate it successfully.  (Ref.)  Quite a few people were giving it their best. I don't know of any successes. Growing tired of the effort, I tuned out, as I imagine most others did too. However, some of them had spent many days, even weeks and months attempting the replication, and spent money and machining time, and built some very nice looking devices, but with no success.

Never did it cross my mind that Robert might have been leading everyone on a wild goose chase then.

Intentional misrepresentation with the objective of luring a perceived competitor in science into wasting time and resources, with the ruse of being their friend is a dirty trick.

I offer the following documentation as material evidence:

Introduction: Imagine a Magnet Motor

Imagine a motor that is propelled by magnets only.  No electricity in; no petrol in; just torque out, to be used to turn a generator or a drive shaft.


Science does not yet have models to describe how this works, largely because the scientific community at large does not believe it is possible.

Notwithstanding academic snubbing, many thousands of individuals have chased such a dream, and some claim to have achieved eureka.

Of all the free energy technologies, from solar and wind, to cold fusion and zero point energy, the magnet motor is probably the sexiest.  There it is spinning away, in violation of known laws of physics, creating useful energy.  What you have is a motor that you could plunk down just about anywhere (environmental conditions/protection depending), and it will run continuously, with no visible energy input, needing only occasional maintenance of the bearings and such.  Heat is the enemy for such a system, because at higher temperatures, the magnetism of the magnets is lost.

Some notice that the magnets wear down, suggesting perhaps that the energy that went into charging the magnets is somehow being drained out to make the motor run.  That is interesting science, but is not practical in terms of energy generation.

Others, however, claim that their designs turn with no diminishing of the Gauss of the magnets.

As of yet, none of those who have claimed to a working magnet motor have brought one into the marketplace; nor have any open source projects validated a functional design that was alleged to work.

Now Robert H. Calloway presents in an open source format a set of principles that allegedly will result in a functional magnet motor.


Not Yet Validated by PES Network, Inc.

PES Network Inc. has not yet validated these claims through an independent replication.  Our purpose here is to share these things with those of you who might not mind going out on a limb, to pioneer the ratification of these principles in an open source environment of sharing what each learns in their replication attempt.

At first, Robert did not want to have his name associated with this project. He said he enjoyed the quiet lifestyle that he had, he valued his anonymity, and he preferred to not change that.

Back in January 2004 when we open sourced the Bowmann magnet motor, Calloway claimed to have a working version of that motor. He was inundated with emails, both from people wanting to figure it out, as well as by skeptics lambasting him for his claim.  I don't recall that any videos were ever produced to show the motor in motion.

Not enjoying that experience, this time around he was inclined to remain anonymous.  So now that he has decided to allow his name to be associated with the information, please be considerate when contacting him.

He says he has been chasing this dream with a passion for nearly twenty years.  He has tried a lot of things that do not work.  Now he is sharing what he found does work.

He is not going to try and patent this; he's not going to try and take it to market; he's not requesting that any commercial applications be cleared by him first.  It is a true open source project, with no known encumbrances.


Background and Source Material

Robert has spent a lot of time reviewing other claims to working magnet motors, especially the Perendev and the Bowmann.  His thoughts are influenced heavily by these designs.

In particular, he said he spent a great deal of time studying the video of the Perendev motor in motion.  What he presents here is based primarily on the Perendev design by Michael J. Brady.


Commencing this Open Source Project

On Jan. 13, after viewing a video of my unfruitful 1/4-scale replica of the Perendev magnet motor (built by Doug Furr), Robert sent me an email offering to help me to get it to run.  That dialogue led to this open source project.

For now, a person wishing to tackle the implementation of Robert's principles will need to extract the necessary information from the Perendev photos and video, in conjunction with Robert's explanations here.  A rendering of this design in clear blueprint form is likely to come on the project site once the claim is independently verified.

In the coming days, we expect that those who join in this open source project will successfully replicate the design; and then produce straight-forward instructional documentation, along with photos, videos, and other evidences.


PES Network, PerenTech, and Perendev

Let me add a footnote here regarding my involvement with Mike Brady and Perendev.  I spent about three years working as an associate of Mike's, and started a company called PerenTech, to manage the the North American manufacturing and marketing rights for his magnet motor.  I made a trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, in Dec. 2002, with the objective of viewing the motor and finalizing a relationship.  I own Perendev.com.  I've detailed my three-year relationship with Mike in a previous document.

Mike subsequently moved his operations to Munich Germany, and as far as I know is still pursuing the ironing out of bugs and preparing to take the device to market.

Probably the most frequently asked question of me is whether or not I personally saw the motor in operation.  The answer to that question is "no".  However, I do believe that what is being shown in the video that he produced a couple of months after our visit is genuine, and does not involve trickery, though the video is not skeptic-proof (e.g. he does not do a walk-around during acceleration).


Encumbrances?

Another pertinent question in this present context is whether or not there might be encumbrances with this present disclosure of technology, which impinge on Mike Brady's design.  As mentioned above, the short answer is "no".

First, Robert obtained his knowledge from material that Mike Brady approved for public release.  Robert's ability to make it work did not involve the disclosure to him of proprietary information.

Second, Perendev's intellectual protections by way of patent appear to be weak, if not non-existent.  As far as I know, he has never produced anything to verify the existence of patent protection for the basic concept.  And others have expressed their professional opinion that his design is probably not patentable because it impinges on other designs, which either have been in the public domain to the point of not being patentable, or which impinge on patents that have expired, such as the first Howard Johnson magnet motor patent. (Ref.)

This is not to say that there might not be certain aspects of the Perendev design that Mike Brady has been able to keep proprietary, out of public knowledge, which will still give him an edge in the market should he ever finally get that far.  The present design does not impinge on those, so far as I know.  And even if it did, because it was arrived at independently, outside of any NDA framework, it is fair game.

Furthermore, I will say that what Robert describes here as being the keys to make this motor work are not what had been conveyed to me by Mike Brady.  This is the first time I have heard these key explanations.


The Keys

According to Robert, the key to making this motor work is really quite straightforward.  He says, "We know exactly how the design works here and why."  And in an email to me on Feb. 10, enabling me to open up this page that has been on hold for nearly a month, he said: "I have released full information on my website on how the engine works."

It can be summarized as follows:

  • Key: The N-S polarity of the cylindrical rotor magnets is top to bottom, while the N-S polarity of the same-shaped stator magnets is front to back.
    Key: N faces outward in the rotors.  The N end of the stator magnet is on the trailing end in the direction of rotation, so that the like-polarity repulsion is the last thing the individual rotor magnet sees as it passes by.
  • Key: The spacing between the rotor magnets, from the leading edge of one to the trailing edge of the next, should be 1/2x the diameter of the magnet.
  • Key: The spacing between the stator magnets, from the leading edge of one to the trailing edge of the next, should be 1x or more of the diameter of the magnet.
  • Key: The rotor and stator magnets need to be the same size.
  • Robert prefers 1" diam. x 1" inch length neodymium magnets, but says the design is scalable according to the above formula.  He recommends not going bellow 7/8 inch diameter, but "it may still work with using smaller magnets".  Also, he said that the length of the magnet is not critical.
  • Key: For shielding, he uses regular steel conduit, cut to the length of the magnet.
  • Key: To achieve additional torque, he said one can add shielding to the leading edge of the rotor magnet (he did not elaborate shape or position).
  • Key: He says, "Shields around the rotor magnets can be used to keep from stressing the magnet fields while being so close together; but they are not necessary for it to run. No shields are needed in the stator."
  • Key: The number of rotor magnets should be a multiples of three (scalable).
  • Perendev: Based on what he saw on the Perendev, he calculated the angle of the magnets in the rotor and the stator to be 18Ί from 90Ί from tangent.  He uses 25Ί, but says 18Ί will work. There are three rotors and three stators.  He did not say how far apart these rotor-stator sets should be from each other.  The rotors share a common shaft.  The rotors are offset from one another by an equal amount, so that the advancing distance from rotor 1 to 2 to 3 and back to 1 is equal.  The placement of magnets in the three stators is uniform from one stator to the next.  In the Perendev model, the stators open and close in a clam-shell arrangement (which puts limits on the placement of magnets about the stator where you want them).  In PerenTech's 1/4-scale variant, the stators slide in from the side, and do not have an articulating point (as is found in the clam-shell).

Disclaimer -- and Prize

As stated above, the viability of this information has not been verified by PES.  We do not make any guarantees that it works as described.  It is presented here in hopes that one of you out there might be able to verify it, and be willing to go on record as having done so.  Once we get two or three solid verifications, then we can go full-throttle on this open source project.

As incentive to come forward, PES Network offers a token $1,000 prize to the first person to successfully replicate this design and provide us with videotape footage that includes a walk-around during acceleration, with permission to post that footage for others to see, and details about the specifics of the design, including materials used and tolerances.

Once that is provided, the floodgates go wide open for many other people to replicate the design.

Robert says, "I look forward to all the reports of running engines."

The world will never be the same after that.  Robert anticipates that "many new companies will be formed."  As they succeed, he only asks that they remember Calloway Engines LLC and provide a donation to further their research and development.
