Krystal Planet to distribute Magenn’s “Airborne Wind Turbines”

Krystal Planet will use its marketing infrastructure to sell and install Magenn's new aloft-floating wind turbines, set for production this year.

LENEXA, KANSAS, USA and OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA -- Krystal Planet Corporation, an ENERGY STAR Partner, announces Tuesday a distributorship agreement with Magenn Power Inc. to market the Magenn Air Rotor System (MARS), an airborne tethered wind generator. This innovative new product is projected to deliver up to 4 kW (kilowatts) of power at a cost per kWh (kilowatt-hour) potentially much lower than conventional wind turbines mounted on towers.

“We are thrilled that Krystal Planet, a leader in the emerging clean power revolution, has agreed to sell our MARS wind generator,” says Mac Brown, CEO of Magenn Power Inc. “This system can be disruptive to the electric utility industry, in that it produces energy at up to 50 percent efficiency at a cost potentially much lower than that of existing wind turbines. Krystal Planet’s large dealer base and international reach should allow us to rapidly launch hundreds of MARS units in late 2006.”

Benefits of the MARS over conventional wind turbines include:

• produce low cost electricity (<10 cents per kWh);
• bird and bat friendly;
• low noise;
• operate over a wide range of wind speeds (2 to 28 meters/second);
• high altitudes from 400 to 1,000 feet above ground are possible without expensive towers or cranes;
• the MARS is mobile (useful if the owner plans to move to a new home or business location, good for emergency deployment and disaster relief).

About the Magenn Air Rotor System (MARS)

MARS is an innovative lighter-than-air tethered device that rotates about a horizontal axis in response to wind, efficiently generating clean renewable electrical energy at a lower cost than all competing systems. This electrical energy is transferred down the tether to a transformer at a ground station and then transferred to the electricity power grid. Helium (an inert non-reactive lighter than air gas) sustains the Air Rotor which ascends to an altitude for best winds and its rotation also causes the Magnus effect.
