The New Energy Movement (NEM), a grassroots nonprofit organization
dedicated to facilitating the advent of a global economy based on clean energy,
has announced the launch of a new updated website. Our new website is
designed to be more modern, attractive, and user-friendly, remarks Joel
Garbon, Associate Director of NEM.
"The website will continue to feature thought-provoking essays from
prominent individuals in the field of new energy, and serve as a forum to
educate and motivate the growth of a citizen-based movement that is focused on
bringing about a clean energy future."
Their definition of "new energy" amounts to modalities that
"access the primal forces of the cosmos" wherein is found a
"repository of near-infinite energy". (ref)
NEM was founded last year by former NASA astronaut-scientist Dr. Brian OLeary,
a frequent guest on radio shows and a highly-sought-after speaker. Its
board of directors includes such notables as physicist Dr.
Tom Valone, author Jeane Manning, and peace-in-space activist Dr. Carol
Rosin. Another luminary aboard NEM is Peter LaVaute, a sustainable-communities
activist.
"There is no leadership coming out of the White House," said Garbon,
who sees NEM as filling that leadership void.
The new website is found at NewEnergyMovement.org.
Presently, the site features a number of essays, along with vision
statements. Front and center is a quotation from Nikola Tesla:
"Ere many generations pass, our machinery will be
driven by power obtainable at any point in the universe... It is a mere
question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the
very wheelwork of nature."
NEMs founders and leaders hope to appeal to the lay audience, providing
introductory-level information to foster awakening. They acknowledge and
appreciate the work being done by other organizations to provide a more
technological presentation of material to those immersed in the field.
Among the points they hope to drive home is that new energy carries with it a
moral responsibility. Increased technology is a two-edged sword that has
associated risks of self-destruction if not used properly. They also
"support a massive shift of federal priorities away from weapons programs
to initiatives which would identify and implement sustainable solutions to our
pressing environmental, socioeconomic and geopolitical problems."
The organization hosted their first conference
in Portland, Oregon in September of 2004. (PESN was present at that conference
and provided extensive
coverage of its proceedings.) NEM plans to host such conferences every
other year, the next one being slated for some time in the Fall of 2006.
With their essays, forums, and symposia, as well as eye-to-eye meetings with the
movers and shakers in society, they hope to spread the gospel of renewable
energy. Much of the work they do is in the form of travel and visiting
with leaders of society, to foster support and awareness for clean energy
technologies. Their travels have included Washington D.C. as well as
Hollywood.
While their organization is new and small, they do hope to bring many other
organizations into their list of official associations worldwide. Last year, PES
Network Inc (PESN) approved a motion to be numbered with the New Energy
Movement.
Garbon anticipates that the number of affiliated organizations will continue to
grow, and that the "New Energy Movement" as an organization will
eventually encompass all things that are "new energy" related, true to
their name.
As resources increase, NEM anticipates providing new technology verification
services, and eventually even building laboratories to support research and
development. Soon, they hope to have a database set up whereby the various
technologies being developed can be assessed according to criteria such as
safety, feasibility, cost, profitability, and scalability.
Presently, O'Leary is working on a compilation of feasible technologies.
